What to wear on Christmas day can be a conundrum but for me, nothing screams Christmas glamour like a striking red dress. Ultimately it depends what you are doing for the day, whether you have the entire extended family over for Christmas dinner or you’re going to your boyfriend’s parents for the first time or even having a quiet intimate Christmas in front of the television! Even when I’m having a laid back Christmas with close family I can’t bring myself to stay in pyjamas and jogging bottoms all day, but somehow feel the need to dress up to mark the occasion.
So what types of dresses are most appropriate for the occasion? In my opinion it’s always best to avoid anything too short or too revealing – especially if you are spending the day with lots of extended family! Also, wearing something comfortable and not too tight will ensure that you can enjoy your Christmas dinner to the full and feel relaxed. Something in a stretch fabric is great for during the day, such as this boat necked skater dress, which worn with a pair of opaque tights would make the perfect warm, comfortable elegant Christmas outfit.
However if you are more formal Christmas party in the evening with champagne and canapés then you can afford to glam up to the max- but as always it’s best to keep thing s elegant and classy! A long sleeved fitted lace dress is perfect for the event as it has a flattering lower neckline without being too revealing. If you can afford to splash out, go for luxury and glamour with a claret frilled georgette dress that will be sure to turn heads. Cover up with a luxury pashmina or faux fur cropped jacket or cape. If you are wearing a red dress avoid over-doing white fur trims- unless you want to be accused of completely stealing Santa Claus’s style!
